Master Class: Make Your Own Jeans Workshop with Lauren Taylor
August 3 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm| $425.00
While making jeans seems like it would be scary and hard, it doesn’t have to be–and our Master Class instructor Lauren Taylor, of lladybird.com, is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be! We are so excited to have Lauren back here at the shop!
Students will learn how to make jeans using the Ginger Jeans pattern from Closet Case Patterns–a classic high-rise skinny jean made with stretch denim, or you can choose to sew the Ames Jeans* from Cashmerette patterns. We will go over everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans–choosing the correct size, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware! We will kick off the weekend with a half-day to choose your size (we will have muslins of the pattern pre-made so you can try them on!) and cut and mark your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and continue throughout the weekend. Please note that while this is not a pants-fitting class, Lauren will cover basic flat pattern alterations and minor fitting adjustments as needed for each individual booty. 🙂
While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don’t know how to use a sewing machine? Take one of our Sewing 101 classes!
Class fee includes the following:
- 18 hours of instruction
- Use of our marking, measuring, cutting, and sewing tools
- Use of our BERNINA sewing machines
- 15% off all in-store purchases throughout the weekend
- A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials
- Coffee, water, lunch, and snacks throughout the weekend
Specific material requirements and schedule will be sent to participants in advance of the workshop. We will have kits available to students with everything you need (fabric, pattern, hardware, and notions) to complete this project.
*Please note that sample sizes of the Ames Jeans pattern will not be available.
